First performed at The Drury Lane Theatre in 1698 and adapted from The French one-act play ‘La Maison de campagne’ by Dancourt, this farce was first performed by La Comedie Francaise in 1688.
Mr Barnard has left the hurly burly of London life to live in the tranquil surroundings of his country house. His dream of pastoral bliss is soon shattered by the arrival of a stream of lively visitors invited by his party-loving wife and children. Next the aristocratic gatecrashers descend, total strangers to the distraught Mr Barnard who threaten to invite more and more guests to enjoy his hospitality. A clever scheme is cooked up by the harassed home-owner to get his own back.
‘The Country House’ is a fast paced and entertaining farce, full of comic characters and silly situations. It is a light hearted and enjoyable theatrical entertainment which is enjoying its first performance since the early 18th century.

FORWARD DATES FOR YOUR DIARY
28th February – 3rd March 2010: Jekyll and Hyde the musical
An evocative tale of the epic battle between good and evil, JEKYLL & HYDE is based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic story about a brilliant doctor whose experiments with human personality create a murderous counterpart. Convinced the cure for his father’s mental illness lies in the separation of Man’s evil nature from his good, Dr. Henry Jekyll unwittingly unleashes his own dark side, wreaking havoc in the streets of late 19th century London as the savage, maniacal Edward Hyde.
